Five real pets, the greatest stories ever written.

Talking With Pets is a children's book line where five real pets, three dogs (led by a scrappy Australian Shepherd) and two cats, step into the greatest stories ever written and make them entirely their own.

The five

The Talking With Pets cast is five real pets who live together. They are not stock illustrations of dogs and cats. They are five animals with names, with breeds, with daily habits, who become the cast of every book in every series. A child meets them once and welcomes them back, again and again, into every story they read.

What the books are

Pet-led adaptations of public-domain children's literature. Kipling's jungle. Stoker's Dracula. Carroll's wonderland. Verne's mysterious island. Hodgson Burnett's secret garden. Greek and Norse myths. Robin Hood. King Arthur. The classics children should grow up inside, brought into the home with five familiar faces as the bridge.

The catalog spans four customer-facing series. The Classic Series carries the adventures and the wonder. The Scaries Series turns brave-kid attention toward Dracula and Frankenstein and the rest of the gentle-horror canon. The Steadfast Series offers calming, sensory-friendly stories for any child who needs help regulating. The Sovereign Series brings five truths a free life rests on into the world of Kipling's jungle.

A child who meets the five at PAWS (ages 3-4) can still be reading the same five at CHRONICLES (ages 8-12). The cast stays constant. The depth scales with the child.

Our mission

To deepen the bond between pets and the humans who love them, healing both ends of the leash through personalized, educational, and clinically grounded storytelling.

How we make our content

We use both human craft and artificial intelligence, and try to use the best of both. Our family decides what a story is about, how it should feel, and whether it is right for the child it is meant for, while technology helps us make it and helps us check that our language is age-appropriate and our books are accessible.

Wherever you see the AI-assisted mark, that item was made with AI assistance. The pet illustrations and portraits in our books and on this site are AI-generated from curated photographs of our five real animals, and a person reviews every one before it ships. Our podcast voices are AI-generated as well, performed under human direction from scripts our family writes and fact-checks.

Nothing reaches a family without a person signing off on it.

How our Health-line books are reviewed

Our Health-line books go through a documented multi-lens review before they reach a family, covering age-band fit, sensory load, read-aloud rhythm, emotional anchoring, and source-text fidelity. Findings are tagged, addressed, and logged. We draw on published developmental-psychology and pediatric occupational-therapy literature when we design them. When a title has been reviewed by a named practitioner, we will say who. Story-led, and careful about what it claims.

Your family, in the story

The Personalization Engine puts the reader's own pet on the page across every spread, in the book's house style. One of the five steps aside, and your pet steps in. When your pet is too distinctly its own to slot into one of the five, the Engine welcomes it in as a sixth character instead. Your child's name is set into the story too. The book becomes the family's book the moment it is opened.
